A recent study has validated the effectiveness of Virtual Heroes’ Virtual Reality Functional Capacity Assessment Tool (VRFCAT) serious game. Virtual Heroes developed VRFCAT under the direction of NeuroCog Trials, Inc. to evaluate the efficacy of cognition-improving drugs. The game requires a clinical trials patient to navigate multiple virtual environments and perform routine to semi-complex activities. Scoring algorithms assess the patient’s cognitive status and performance over multiple trials.
From the journal Schizophrenia Research: “The VRFCAT is a highly reliable and sensitive measure of functional capacity with associations to the UPSA and MCCB. These results provide encouraging support for a computerized functional capacity assessment for use in schizophrenia.”
