Virtual Heroes Wins MS&T Innovation Ribbon

The Virtual Heroes Division of Applied Research Associates has been named an Innovation blue-ribbon winner in the 2017 Industry Simulation & Training Awards. The editors of Military Simulation & Training (MS&T) magazine give achievement ribbons to award winners who “have made the most significant contributions within the S&T defense industry.”

This marks the 16th year of the awards and the 10th time Virtual Heroes/ARA has made the list. The Innovation ribbon is a special honor for companies that “lead the industry in innovation.” Virtual Heroes won the ribbon on the strength of programs such as the Assimilation of Sources for a Cohesive ENvironment Description (ASCEND) contract with the Army Research Laboratory, under which they’re developing technologies that will support the Army’s Synthetic Training Environment (STE) vision. Their goal is faster delivery of accurate, current battlefield virtual environment datasets to soldiers to improve situational awareness, mission success, and survivability. In addition, their recent Burn Computer Application for Research and Education (BurnCARE) contract will produce a serious game to advance the Army’s ability to address complex long-term burn care and handoff procedures. It will include high-fidelity 3D virtual patients and environments on iOS and Android mobile platforms, simulating burn response by accounting for loss of fluids, increased vascular resistance, thermoregulation, hypothermia, and infection.

“ARA is honored to be recognized with the prestigious Innovation award by MS&T this year. We constantly strive to innovate and solve the hard problems for government, military, and commercial organizations, and this award is recognition of the hard work by our employees to achieve that goal,” said Randy Brown, ARA Vice President and division manager.
